Resistance training can be as simple as lifting weights in your own home which are heavier, and more out of your physical comfort zone, then what you are used to lifting or as complicated as getting a program from a personal trainer and going to a gym.
If you have not done any resistance training before or it has been a long time since you lifted a weight, please ask your doctor about it. The last thing you want to do is to injure yourself. Your resistance training should be accompanied by a healthy diet.
Balance your metabolism
Your stress levels and the food you put into your body control your endocrine system, which in turn controls your metabolism. If you eat wholesome, natural foods, reduce your stress levels through daily meditation, walking in nature or whatever method works for you, your metabolism will be in balance and you will achieve your healthy weight and maintain it.
But conversely if you put your body under a great deal of stress and eat a nutritionally poor diet, high in salt, sugar and processed fats, the more unbalanced your metabolism is and the more difficult it is to lose weight and keep it off.
